Juneau: GLOF Mitigation Updates, Eaglecrest Gondola, and Disposal of City Hall on Agenda for May 4 Committee of the Whole Meeting
EntSun News/11091228
~ The City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) Assembly will be receiving a comprehensive technical update on the current efforts to mitigate the risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) at their upcoming Committee of the Whole (COW) meeting on Monday, May 4 at 6 p.m. The update will include information on flood modeling and the progress of Phase 1 and 2 construction of HESCO flood barriers.
In addition to this, the Assembly will also be discussing the funding for these projects during the meeting. The agenda also includes discussions about the future plans for both the Gondola project and the existing City Hall building.
Recently, the Assembly made a decision to terminate their revenue sharing agreement with Goldbelt for the Gondola project. However, further discussions are needed to determine the next steps. Options that have been identified include selling all parts and equipment related to the project or seeking potential investors to take over.

Another important topic on the agenda is an ordinance that would authorize the City Manager to sell the current City Hall located at 155 Heritage Way. Various methods of disposal will be considered, ranging from sealed competitive bids to negotiating with interested parties.
While public testimony is not allowed during Assembly Committee Meetings, residents are encouraged to share their input by emailing or testifying at an upcoming Regular Assembly Meeting on May 18. The meeting can be attended in person at assembly chambers or online via juneau.zoom.us/j/95424544691. All meeting materials can also be viewed at juneauak.portal.civicclerk.com/event/4843/overview.
