Juneau: Flood Threat Over – Area Open to Residents Only

EntSun News/11099814
~ At 5 p.m. on August 13, the 2026 Glacial Lake Outburst Flood Unified Command announced that the flood threat from Suicide Basin has officially ended. The water levels have receded and residents are now allowed to return to the previously evacuated areas.

However, caution is still advised as there may be damaged areas and riverbanks that could pose a danger. The public is urged to avoid driving through standing water as it can create waves that may cause further damage to nearby structures.

Pedestrian traffic on top of Brotherhood Bridge sidewalks has been reopened, but the Back Loop Bridge remains closed while the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities assesses its safety. For updates on closures, individuals can visit 511.alaska.gov.
