Jimmy Chan, a man of devotion and integrity, recognized by ACTRA Montreal

MONTREAL - EntSun -- On Sunday October 20th at the Gèsu Theatre in Montreal, Film industry professionals, as well as the up and coming, gathered to celebrate another year's success in Film and TV.

Two awards stood out this year for the Asian Community; that of the CTV hit series Transplant Co-Star, Kenny Wong, with the 'Walter Massey Breakthrough Artist Award' and another, more dedicated to community efforts, the `Victor Knight Community Builder Award` which was presented to Chinese Community Leader, Actor, Producer, Director, Writer and Martial Arts Sifu, Jimmy Chan.

Mrs. Ericka Alneus - City Councillor for Projet Montréal, also speaking as a representative of the Montreal Mayoral office, presented Jimmy Chan his award, and spoke dearly of M. Chan's achievements, leaving the attendees in awe of how much one person can give back in only half of a lifetime.

Jimmy, greatly honoured by this recognition, gave most thanks and celebration to the efforts of his whole family including his wife Susan, and his brother-in-law, Norman Woo. Jimmy feels that with the help of his family and collaborators, he will continue their legacy.  'It started with my 3 daughters, Jessica, Angela and Elizabeth, and then the boys joined in.'

Jimmy, who is the Creator of the life changing and inspiring 5-part series documentary, 'Saving Chinatown', and Producer of the Chinese Community TV Program Fortune Cookies Production under ICITou.TV., has included his children in his filmmaking dreams both in front and behind the scenes.

During the pandemic, Jimmy created an immediate hunger and first response action program which provided over 6000 meals to those in need including our health workers. Their restaurant Wok Café in DDO provided the perfect workspace. He also put in place, with the help of his friend Eddy Li, a security plan called The Watchdog System to help educate the citizens of Chinatown on how to recognize immediate dangers.

``... in helping them through their difficult challenging time…(we) bring them hope and better days, not only for today but especially for tomorrow.``

Jimmy is also founder and organizer of the Montreal Chinatown Multicultural Festival, Drumming Festival to celebrate Asian Heritage Month in diversity and inclusion.

``(These engagements) brought many communities together to share our culture and learn from each other's cultures through diversity and inclusion ...it builds friendships.``
