From April 21-25, representatives from the State of Idaho engaged with companies across key sectors such as semiconductors, AI, food technology, aerospace, and logistics. Governor Little expressed his satisfaction with the mission's outcomes, stating that "Japan is a valued partner and an increasingly important market for Idaho's growing economy."

Japan is currently Idaho's fourth largest trading partner. In 2024, Idaho reopened a trade office in Japan during Governor Little's previous trade mission to Japan and Taiwan alongside the Idaho Department of Commerce, the Idaho State Department of Agriculture, and 22 businesses and organizations from Idaho.
During this recent mission, a reception was held which drew strong interest from over 100 high-level government officials and executive-level industry leaders. The delegation also had productive meetings with major suppliers such as Sumitomo Corporation, Utsu Co., Ltd., Hitachi Ltd., Nagase & Co., Ltd., Stella Chemifa Corporation, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and Gelest Inc. (a Mitsubishi Chemical Group Company).
In addition to these meetings, representatives from the Commerce department also engaged with influential organizations including the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japanese External Trade Organization (JETRO), American Chamber of Commerce in Japan, and Japan Institute for Overseas Investment. These engagements provided direct access to leaders shaping Japan's advanced technology and manufacturing ecosystems.

He also highlighted the significance of in-person engagement with business and economic leaders, which increases credibility and trust with Japan's critical semiconductor, aerospace, food tech, and energy industries.
Looking ahead, Governor Little will lead another trade mission to Japan this fall, with additional visits planned for Taiwan. The Idaho departments of commerce and agriculture are actively recruiting businesses interested in joining the Asia mission. This mission presents a valuable opportunity for businesses to expand their global presence and contribute to Idaho's growing economy.
