Idaho pursues $1 billion in new funding for rural healthcare access

Boise, Idaho ~ Boise, Idaho - Governor Brad Little has taken a significant step towards improving healthcare access, quality, and outcomes in rural Idaho by issuing Executive Order 2025-08. The order, also known as the "Making Rural Idaho Healthy Again Act," creates a new task force to advise on the state's application for the Rural Health Transformation Program. This program was established by President Donald Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill.

Governor Little expressed his gratitude for the significant investments made by President Trump and Congress in improving healthcare in rural areas across the country.

The newly formed Idaho Rural Health Task Force will bring together experts and stakeholders to collaborate on the state's application for the transformative program. According to Governor Little, this task force will provide a new level of collaboration and expertise as they prepare to submit Idaho's application.

The Rural Health Transformation Program has been authorized with a total funding of $50 billion over five years for all states. This funding will be divided into two buckets - 50% or $25 billion will be distributed equally among approved states, while the remaining 50% or $25 billion will be distributed based on specific criteria. These criteria include population in rural areas, proportion of rural healthcare facilities compared to national facilities, financial health of rural hospitals, and other factors.

The Department of Health and Welfare (DHW) is currently working on writing Idaho's grant application, which is due on November 5th. The state expects to receive information about their allocated funds on December 31st, 2025.
