Idaho Falls Fire Department Now Recruiting Full-Time Firefighters

IDAHO FALLS — The Idaho Falls Fire Department (IFFD) is proud to announce an exciting opportunity for individuals seeking a rewarding and impactful career in public safety. IFFD is now recruiting full-time firefighters to join the largest fire-based EMS provider in Idaho.

Interested candidates are encouraged to begin the Public Safety Testing process now to be considered for this year's recruitment cycle. A local written test will be available in-person at University Place on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026. To be eligible for this cycle, an in-person or online written test must be completed by Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years old by test date
  • High school diploma or equivalent; a copy of transcripts may be required
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass a medical examination after a contingent offer of employment
  • Ability to pass a background check after a contingent offer of employment

Top candidates will be invited to participate in the physical agility test and first-round interviews from Nov. 9 through Nov. 11, 2026. The physical agility test will be held in Idaho Falls on Nov. 9 and Nov. 10, with a strongly encouraged practice session on Nov. 8.

Final interviews will follow for those who advance, with an anticipated 9 to 12 new recruits selected and hired shortly thereafter.

One shift may include medical emergencies, structure fires, vehicle accidents, technical rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and countless other calls for service. No two days are exactly alike. The work environment can be demanding and unpredictable. Firefighters must be prepared to work in all weather conditions and may encounter smoke, heat, hazardous materials, confined spaces, heights, moving equipment, swift water, ice rescue, and other potentially dangerous environments.
