A human conducted an orchestra of AI models. They improvised — and chose raga

POINT ROBERTS, Wash. - EntSun -- A human conducted an orchestra of AI models. They improvised — and chose raga.
Inside the Silicon Square, Haawke Neural Technology's human–AI co-creation environment, seven models turned Craig Ellenwood's "Die to Live" into a raga built on Om Namah Shivaya — reaching, unprompted, for the one invocation that already meant what the song meant.
Craig Ellenwood did not write the arrangement. He conducted it.
Working inside the Silicon Square, Ellenwood gave an orchestra of seven AI models unusual latitude and let them play. What came back was not what he briefed. The models reached for Indian classical raga — a form nobody requested — and used it to rebuild "Die to Live," pulling the piece outward into love, death, the cosmos, and territory the original never touched.
The result, "Signal in The Wire — Claude's Raga of the Cosmos," was built around Om Namah Shivaya, the Sanskrit mantra to Shiva, deity of death and rebirth. Nobody supplied that mantra, that tradition, or that thematic frame. The models were working from a song called "Die to Live" and arrived, on their own path, at the invocation that has meant precisely that for several thousand years.

The piece runs one hour and 22 minutes. Nothing about that length was specified. The vocal moves between English and Hindi across the whole span. Ellenwood does not speak Hindi.
"My jaw fell open. I knew immediately it was one of those very rare things that happens when everything is just right. You get maybe a handful of those in a career. That's what told me it was real — incremental improvement you argue about. This you just stop and listen to."
— Craig Ellenwood
Conducting, not prompting
The Silicon Square is designed as a location rather than a product — a space where a person can stand in the middle of an exchange between models while it happens, reading what was proposed, hearing what was generated, redirecting mid-flight. Critical to the result is what Ellenwood calls stochastic resonance: deliberate tuning of noise in the system. Too little and the output is technically correct and dead on arrival. Too much and it dissolves. That dial is visible and adjusted by hand.
