EntSun News/10760469
The Drifters to perform from catalog of hit songs on Jan. 11
BREMEN, Ga. - Dec. 11, 2018 - EntSun -- Recognized as one of the first groups to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Drifters will perform at Mill Town Music Hall on Friday, January 11th at 7:30 pm EST. The group will play from their hit songs along with songs from their newest CD, "The Drifters Salute the Great American Songbook Live." The Drifters have moved beyond the 50-year mark with a lineup of veterans and new voices on their latest tour. Band of Gold will open the show. Mill Town Music Hall, focusing on family-friendly music and events, is located conveniently off I-20 in Bremen (1031 Alabama Avenue).
In the 1950s, The Drifters' historic journey began to take shape, as they were the first musical rock and roll group to include stringed instruments into rhythm and blues music. With over 200 million records sold world wide, The Drifters have had five legendary lead singers including Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Clyde McPhatter, Ben E. King and famed individual lead singers Charley Thomas, Bill Pinkney and Johnny Moore. They were the first musical group to sell two million records with their pop classic "Up on the Roof." The Drifters are recognized for songs such as "There Goes My Baby" and "Under the Boardwalk," which is also one the most played R&B tunes of all time. They were one of the first groups inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with fellow inductees The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Bob Dylan and the Supremes. According to the Rolling Stone magazine's 500 Greatest Rock and Roll Performers, they wrote, "No group has done it this well for this long—no one, not even the Rolling Stones." Before his recent passing, The Drifters performed for President George H.W. Bush at his 90th birthday party.
