COLORADO SPRINGS ~ Colorado Governor Polis kicked off the new school year with a visit to North Middle School in Colorado Springs today. The governor met with teachers and joined a classroom of seventh and eighth grade students to celebrate the start of the academic year.
During his visit, Governor Polis invited the students to participate in the "Governor For a Day" contest. This unique opportunity allows students to experience firsthand how state government works and encourages them to get excited about civics.
In a statement, Governor Polis expressed his enthusiasm for spending the first day of school with the students at North Middle School. He also highlighted Colorado's ranking as the best state for education, crediting classrooms like the one he visited and dedicated teachers for this achievement.

The "Governor For a Day" contest opened on August 31 and will close on September 7. To enter, seventh and eighth grade students must fill out a form and submit a video between 30 seconds to two minutes long explaining why they want to be governor of Colorado for a day.
Governor Polis believes that this competition will not only get students excited about civics but also help them learn about state government. He even joked that Colorado's next governor could potentially come from North Middle School.
This initiative by Governor Polis aims to engage young minds in understanding how their state is governed while also providing an exciting opportunity for them to take on the role of governor for a day.
