Governor Abbott Extends Workforce Pell Grant Applications To Expand Texas' Workforce

The Workforce Pell Grant was established under the Trump Administration as part of the Working Families Tax Cuts Act of 2025. It provides federal financial aid for eligible short-term certificate and credential programs, specifically targeting working adults, recent high school graduates, and other individuals looking to quickly earn credentials for high-paying careers.

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) is responsible for implementing the program in Texas in collaboration with the Texas Workforce Commission and the Texas Workforce Investment Council. Eligible programs must align with workforce needs and meet strong federal performance standards, including a 70 percent completion and job placement rate.

THECB is currently reviewing applications on a rolling basis. Once final approval is granted by the U.S. Department of Education, participating colleges and technical schools in Texas will be able to offer Workforce Pell Grants to qualified students.
