Goodwill Southwest Florida Celebrates 60 Years of Transforming Lives and Strengthening Communities
EntSun News/11094073
FORT MYERS, Fla. - EntSun -- Goodwill Southwest Florida (Goodwill SWFL) proudly celebrates 60 years of service, marking six decades of empowering individuals and building stronger communities across Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Glades, and Hendry counties. Since its incorporation on June 15, 1966, the organization has grown into one of the region's most trusted nonprofits, now serving nearly 25,000 individuals annually through its programs and services.
For 60 years, Goodwill SWFL has remained committed to creating opportunities for people facing barriers to independence. Today, that mission continues through a wide range of initiatives, including workforce development, digital skills training, small business support, and disability services - all designed to help individuals gain confidence, achieve stability, and move toward self-sufficiency.
Meeting Critical Community Needs
Goodwill SWFL takes a proactive approach to identifying gaps in community services and addressing them with targeted, responsive programs. Once immediate needs are met, individuals are encouraged to develop long-term skills through training opportunities funded mainly by the sale of donated goods.

At the heart of these efforts are Goodwill SWFL's Community Resource Centers (CRCs). With six permanent locations and a mobile unit, CRCs provide essential services such as résumé assistance, digital literacy training, ESL and citizenship classes, and comprehensive support for unemployment, disability navigation, and disaster recovery. Partnerships with more than 50 nonprofit and business organizations ensure a coordinated network of care for those in need.
Digital training programs further equip participants with in-demand skills, including opportunities to earn free laptops and certifications such as Google Generative AI credentials, helping individuals remain competitive in today's evolving workforce.
Supporting Local Entrepreneurs
Goodwill SWFL's MicroEnterprise Institute continues to play a key role in driving economic mobility across Southwest Florida. Since 2010, the program has supported more than 1,200 graduates in launching or strengthening over 700 small businesses. Participants complete the program with business feasibility plans, practical knowledge, and access to mentorship networks that help sustain long-term success.
