Dr. Mayowa Olusoji Sounds Alarm on Widening Knowledge Gap as 137 Countries Pilot Central Bank Digital Currencies

HOUSTON - EntSun -- As governments representing 98% of the world's GDP accelerate toward Central Bank Digital Currencies, financial literacy and digital asset expert Dr. Mayowa Olusoji is warning that a dangerous disconnect is emerging between institutional momentum and public preparedness. With 137 countries now exploring CBDCs (Central Bank Digital Currency), up from just 35 in 2020, and 49 active pilot projects worldwide, Dr. Olusoji cautions that millions of citizens risk being left behind in a fundamental transformation of money itself.

"We're witnessing a psychological rupture in how people understand money," says Dr. Olusoji, who specializes in financial literacy and digital asset education. "For generations, people dismissed cryptocurrency as 'not real money.' Now their own governments are digitizing national currencies, forcing a reckoning that most aren't equipped to navigate. This isn't just about learning new technology. It's about confronting the reality that everything you thought was permanent about money is changing, and that creates profound anxiety and vulnerability."

The scale of the literacy gap is staggering. Recent data reveals that US financial literacy rates have flatlined at approximately 50% for eight consecutive years, with understanding of financial risk plummeting to just 35%. Globally, 40% of adults who shop online fail to meet minimum digital financial literacy standards, yet digital payment adoption continues to surge. China's digital yuan alone processed $986 billion in transactions by mid 2024, nearly quadrupling in just one year, while Gen Z, the demographic most likely to adopt digital currencies, posts the lowest financial literacy rate of any generation at just 38%.

"The old way of assuming cash and traditional banking are permanent fixtures is collapsing in real time," Dr. Olusoji explains. "People who've never questioned how money works are suddenly facing digital wallets, programmable currencies, and government issued tokens. Without proper financial literacy around digital assets, they're vulnerable to scams, poor decisions, and complete exclusion from economic participation."
