Exclusive Interview: Authory founder Eric Hauch on digital portfolios for journalists and content creators

The biggest technical challenge, Hauch admits, has been finding and extracting content for each creator at scale. On the market side, the main difficulty has been educating users about the risk of losing access to their published work when outlets close, redesign, or restructure.

One of Authory's strongest advantages is automation. "When a user creates an account, our system will automatically find all their past work samples — even thousands of them — and will continue to add future work as it gets published. We don't just link to articles, we create permanent copies that remain available even if the original source disappears," Hauch explained.

The platform's business model is built on two paid plans and a free tier, without outside investors. This independence, Hauch emphasizes, allows Authory to grow sustainably while focusing on creators' needs. Looking ahead, he envisions Authory becoming the go-to platform for anyone producing content, regardless of medium, offering independence from the volatility of traditional publishing platforms.

"Creators will increasingly want to ensure they are not at the mercy of corporate decisions they cannot control," Hauch said. "Authory's role is to provide them with a permanent, independent home for their work."
