Evansville: Mayor Stephanie Terry Releases 2027 Budget Survey Results

Evansville, Ind. ~ In Evansville, Indiana, over 830 residents recently participated in a digital survey to share their priorities and concerns for the city's 2027 budget. The survey, which was launched on March 30, 2026, aimed to identify which services residents prioritize and where they would like to see improvements.

Mayor Stephanie Terry expressed her gratitude for the high level of participation from the community. "We asked residents to tell us what matters most, and they responded," she said. "Their feedback helps us understand where we're meeting expectations, where we need to improve, and where future investments should be focused."

The top four services that were identified as priorities for the upcoming budget were affordable housing, clean water, maintenance of city facilities and roads, and code enforcement. It is worth noting that respondents were allowed to select up to three options per response.

When it came to rating satisfaction with city services, fire services, police services, and clean drinking water received the highest ratings. On the other hand, street and sidewalk maintenance, tree maintenance, and code enforcement received lower ratings. In terms of overall satisfaction with Evansville as a place to live, work, and play, the most common response in all categories was "good."

The survey also included an open-ended question asking for desired community improvements. Among the most frequently cited concerns were utility costs, particularly CenterPoint Energy bills. While these rates are set by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, Mayor Terry's administration continues to advocate for local residents by providing support for bill relief programs as well as weatherization and home repair programs.

This is the second consecutive year that Mayor Terry has released a city budget survey as part of her commitment to promoting a transparent government where residents have a voice in shaping services and improvements. The survey was promoted through various channels such as the city newsletter, news media outlets, and social media platforms.

The budget planning process began in April with a Community Budget Forum, and in July, Mayor Terry and Controller Robert Gunter will hold one-on-one meetings with each department. The proposed budget will be presented to City Council on September 15, 2026 at 3:00 pm, and the community will have the opportunity to provide feedback during public budget hearings before the final vote on October 5, 2026.
