Eastern Mediterranean Shipping Leaders Call for Stronger RISQ 3.2 Readiness
EntSun News/11099747
LONDON - EntSun -- Senior leaders from across the Eastern Mediterranean shipping community have called for stronger collaboration, practical training and improved operational readiness as the industry prepares for the evolving requirements of RightShip's RISQ 3.2 inspection framework.
The discussion, hosted by SQLearn and Mintra in collaboration with RightShip during Posidonia 2026, brought together representatives from shipowners, managers, industry associations and inspection specialists. The panel focused on how shipping companies can move beyond compliance and strengthen safer, more consistent onboard practices.
Moderated by Vassilios Demetriades, Global Ambassador at Mintra, the panel included Kostis Antonopoulos of RightShip, Metaxia Psalti of Neda Maritime Agency and INTERCARGO, and Panagiotis Nikiteas of Maran Dry Management and the Dry Bulk Centre of Excellence.
The discussion highlighted that RISQ 3.2 places greater emphasis on operational execution, crew understanding and consistent implementation of procedures onboard.

"RISQ 3.2 represents more than an inspection framework. It reflects a change in philosophy, where people, processes and planning must work together," said Vassilios Demetriades.
Kostis Antonopoulos stressed the importance of demonstrating readiness early and consistently, while Metaxia Psalti highlighted the gap that can exist between documented procedures and their practical implementation onboard.
Panagiotis Nikiteas emphasised the need for greater empowerment across ship and shore teams, noting that effective communication and preparation will be essential for meeting future requirements.
The panel also examined recurring inspection findings in areas including navigation, mooring, maintenance and enclosed space entry. Speakers agreed that stronger alignment between ship and shore teams, supported by practical training, can improve both safety performance and commercial resilience.
The discussion concluded that training and measurable competence will be key to successful RISQ 3.2 implementation, helping crews build the knowledge, judgement and confidence needed for safer day-to-day operations and inspection readiness.
