DETROIT, June 11, 2024 ~ Hometown Connections, Inc. and DivDat have announced a partnership to assist public electric utilities in providing multiple channels for bill payment. This collaboration aims to bridge the gap between utilities and their customers, regardless of their access to traditional banking services, credit, or cash.
DivDat, a Detroit-based software company with over 50 years of experience in consumer payment options, will work with Hometown Connections to offer alternative payment methods that will improve collections and strengthen the relationship between utilities and their customers. According to recent FDIC statistics, anywhere from 5% to 12% of US households do not have a bank account, highlighting the need for diverse payment options.
"We are excited to work with DivDat to offer utilities alternatives that will improve collections and strengthen their relationship with customers," said Hometown Connections' CEO Marc Gerken. This partnership will allow utilities to cater to the growing number of customers who prefer non-traditional electronic means of payment.
DivDat has already established a presence in the mid-west and has been providing payment solutions since the early 1970s under the name Diversified Data Processing & Consulting Inc., affectionately known as DivDat by their satisfied customers. The marketing agreement with Hometown Connections will help DivDat expand nationally.

"We offer ways for utilities to provide more payment options that improve accessibility, convenience, and security without taxing utility staff," said DivDat president Jason Bierkle. Their Payment Network solutions include in-person (POS), online, mobile app, text-to-pay, over the phone, and kiosk payments. The network also features multi-biller capabilities, allowing customers to pay various bills through a single interface.
In addition to offering diverse payment options, DivDat also provides streamlined integrations and dedicated customer support during both initial set-up and post-implementation. Their current customers benefit from world-class reconciliation tools and real-time analytics that aid utility treasury teams in making better decisions.
Hometown Connections, Inc. is a national, non-profit utility services organization that has been serving public power for over 25 years. Their team of consultants and partners specializes in addressing the unique challenges faced by community-owned utilities.
"We are thrilled to partner with DivDat and offer our clients a wider range of payment options," said Lindsey Myrand, Marketing Manager at Hometown Connections. This collaboration will not only benefit utilities but also their customers who will have more convenient and secure ways to pay their bills.
