EntSun News/10827943
MELBOURNE, Australia - EntSun -- velvet&tonic, a small Melbourne millinery label, tops 124 international milliners and wins the HATalk Hat Making Competition 2020. The theme this year was "Timeless".
This was the eighth annual HATalk Hatmaking competition, which attracts milliners from all over the world. velvet&tonic's pink and black sculptural hat wowed the judges and took out top place. "Beautifully made hat with immaculate use of materials and technically beautiful inside and out. Exceptional work. Just gorgeous from every angle" were the judge's comments. Souri, who started velvet&tonic only a couple of years ago, wins an enrolment on a 1-week residential workshop at Chateau Dumas in France.
"Inspired by the ebb and flow off a nebula in the evening sky, this timeless piece has universal appeal. The stellar evolution in design channels the most stunning of intergalactic medium - the cosmic nebula. An array of onyx beads nestled within the bold, colourful layers represents the birth of new stars. This piece of millinery has been created to evoke the awe and wonder one encounters when gazing through a telescope at the infinite night sky". This was how Melbourne milliner, Souri of velvet&tonic, described the inspiration for her winning design.
