Correction: Columbia Police arrest suspect for shots fired on East Walnut Street

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Police officers were on patrol in the early hours of August 9th when they heard gunshots in the 800 block of East Walnut Street. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the suspect, 20-year-old Tavan Eric Williams-Patrick of Columbia, was seen holding a gun and attempting to place it on a nearby sidewalk.

As officers attempted to apprehend Williams-Patrick, he attempted to flee on foot but was quickly arrested. He is now facing charges of fourth-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or property damage as a result of this incident. However, the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact the Columbia Police Department or CrimeStoppers.

According to Missouri statutes 565.056, 571.015, 571.030, and 571.031, Williams-Patrick could face serious consequences for his actions. Assault in the fourth degree, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful discharge of a firearm are all considered serious offenses under Missouri law.

If anyone has information that leads to an arrest in this case, they may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,500 through CrimeStoppers. The case number for this incident is 2026-007560.
