Columbia Fire Department responds to commercial structure fire, Aug. 6

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ On Thursday morning, a commercial structure fire broke out in the 2000 block of West Ash Street in Columbia, Missouri. The Columbia Fire Department (CFD) received a call at 8:37 a.m. and immediately dispatched multiple companies to the scene.

Within three minutes, CFD arrived to find smoke coming from a two-story commercial building with a basement. Without hesitation, firefighters entered the structure to locate the source of the smoke and search for any occupants.

After thorough investigation, it was determined that an electrical motor in an HVAC system was the cause of the smoke. Fortunately, firefighters were able to quickly contain and minimize damage to the appliance.

Thankfully, there were no reported injuries as a result of this incident. It is believed that the fire was sparked by a power loss during an ongoing storm.

A total of seven fire companies, two chief officers, and one safety captain with 25 personnel responded to this emergency. The swift action and expertise of CFD prevented any major damage or injuries from occurring.
