Colorado's Worst Snowpack on Record Means a Dangerous Spring for Denver Drivers

DENVER - EntSun -- Denver, CO — Colorado just recorded its worst snowpack in nearly 25 years at 61% of normal. WHY THIS WINTER MADE THINGS WORSE

When snowpack fails, roads get more gravel treatment. That sand sits on I-25, I-70, C-470, and E-470 until spring rains wash it away. During dry, windy warm-up periods it becomes a windshield-destroying projectile. Drivers who used the I-70 mountain corridor regularly this winter have almost certainly accumulated chips they have not noticed yet.
