Since its founding, the organization has provided more than 6,677 vests, valued at $6.9 million, to K9s in all 50 states, according to the release. The program is open to U.S. dogs at least 20 months old that are actively working and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. Dogs with expired vests may also qualify.
The organization says a $1,050 donation sponsors a vest, which it values at $1,800. Each vest weighs an average of 4 to 5 pounds and comes with a five-year warranty.
Vested Interest in K9s accepts tax-deductible donations and lists information and volunteer opportunities at vik9s.org. The organization can also be reached at (508) 824-6978.
