Colorado Springs: Marksheffel Road closures planned overnight Thursday, Friday, plus during day on Saturday

~ Colorado Springs - Two sections of Marksheffel Road will be temporarily closed for construction work starting on Thursday, February 26. The closures will take place between Dublin Boulevard and Stetson Hills Boulevard and are expected to last through Saturday, February 28.

According to city officials, the closures are necessary in order to complete drainage improvements and change traffic patterns. By scheduling the closures during periods of lower traffic volume, crews can work safely and efficiently while minimizing disruptions. However, some construction noise is expected during overnight operations.

The first closure will begin on Thursday at 7 p.m. and last until Friday at 5:30 a.m. During this time, Marksheffel Road will be closed from north of Tarren Heights to south of Dublin Boulevard. When the road reopens, Ryker Peak will also be open to traffic.

The second closure will start on Friday at 7 p.m. and continue until Saturday at 5:00 p.m. This section of Marksheffel Road, from north of Stetson Hills Boulevard to south of Ryker Peak, will be closed for a total of 22 hours. When it reopens, a new traffic pattern will be in place from Tarren Heights to Stetson Hills Boulevard. However, Tarren Heights will remain open for now.

Drivers are advised to use the signed detour route which directs travelers to use Peterson Road, Dublin Boulevard and Stetson Hills Boulevard. It is important to note that Tarren Heights and Ryker Peak only provide neighborhood access and do not connect to other suitable streets for a detour.

City officials also remind drivers that this work is weather-dependent and the schedule may change. To stay updated on road closures and traffic pattern changes, individuals can text IMPROVE to 866-762-3640 or call the project hotline at (719-645-4055).

The improvement project for Marksheffel Road is a top priority for the city. Once completed, the two-lane section between North Carefree Circle and Dublin Boulevard will be expanded to two lanes in each direction with a center median, improved drainage, and new sidewalks and paths.
