Colorado Springs: City to observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday

~ As the nation prepares to honor the legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., the City of Colorado Springs has announced that several administrative and elected offices and agencies will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19.

According to a press release from the city, the following offices will be fully closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Administrative offices for Mountain Metropolitan Transit, City Administration Building, City Clerk, City Hall, Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, Evergreen and Fairview Cemeteries Offices (with gates open to visitors), Municipal Court, Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Administrative Building, Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site, Sales Tax Office, Sports Office at Memorial Park, Therapeutic Recreation Program at Westside Community Center, and Starsmore Visitor and Nature Center.

However, some city entities will remain open as usual or have adjusted operating hours. Pikes Peak – America's Mountain will be open normal hours while Patty Jewett and Valley Hi golf courses will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., weather permitting. The Patty Jewett Bar & Grill and Caddie's at Valley Hi will also be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Sertich Ice Center will not have any public sessions on Monday.

For those looking for some outdoor fun on the holiday, Skate in the Park at Acacia Park presented by Academy Bank will be open for public sessions from 1-3 p.m., 4-6 p.m., and 7-9 p.m.

The city encourages residents to take this opportunity to reflect on Dr. King's message of equality and justice for all as they enjoy their day off or participate in community events honoring his legacy.
