EntSun News/11086540
DENVER ~ Denver, CO - As AmeriCorps Week kicks off, Governor Jared Polis and Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera are taking the time to honor the dedicated members who serve their communities every day.

Governor Polis expressed his gratitude for the hard work and impact that AmeriCorps members have on Colorado communities. From assisting with fire mitigation efforts to providing mental health support for youth and helping residents file tax returns, these members play a crucial role in improving the lives of Coloradans.

To show his appreciation, Governor Polis has officially declared March 9-13th as AmeriCorps Week in Colorado. Lt. Governor Primavera also shared her excitement for this week of celebration, highlighting her personal connection to AmeriCorps through her daughter's service and the positive ripple effects it had on families, classrooms, and future leaders across the state.

This year's AmeriCorps Week is especially significant as it marks the 5th anniversary of Serve Colorado, a leading commission that oversees AmeriCorps programs in the state. With over 1 million hours of service contributed by 1,330 members across 300 locations last year alone, it is clear that AmeriCorps is making a significant impact in Colorado.

One notable program under Serve Colorado is the Youth Mental Health Corps, which saw its first year of operation in 2026. The program's 104 members provided over 179,000 hours of service and reached over 7,000 community members. Additionally, they earned professional certificates and credentials that will benefit them in their future careers.

Another innovative effort by Serve Colorado is their partnership with the Colorado National Guard to create a Fire Mitigation Crew. This crew has already made a positive impact by thinning 15 acres of forest and constructing over 200 slash piles to improve forest health and reduce wildfire risk near Steamboat Springs.

AmeriCorps also offers education programs that have helped improve the academic success of over 3,700 students. And for those looking to gain valuable skills and experience, AmeriCorps offers workforce development and Registered Apprenticeship Programs that provide industry-recognized credentials and college credit.

As AmeriCorps Week continues, Governor Polis and Lt. Governor Primavera encourage all Coloradans to take a moment to thank the dedicated members who are making a difference in their communities every day. To learn more about AmeriCorps and its impact in Colorado, visit servecolorado.colorado.gov.
