Colorado: Governor Polis and Department of Public Safety Release Violent and Property Crime Decreases in 2025
EntSun News/11098605
DENVER ~ Denver, CO - According to new data released by Governor Polis and the Colorado Division of Criminal Justice, the state has seen a significant decrease in both violent and property crime rates in 2025.
Governor Polis attributes this decline to a data-driven approach and investments in public safety initiatives. He stated, "In the last two years, crime has decreased in Colorado and that's because we are taking a data-driven approach to reducing crime and investing in public safety initiatives that keep our communities safe. Every Colorado community should be a safe place where people can thrive and this is exciting progress in making all our communities safer."
The data shows a 10.7% decrease in violent crime from 2024 to 2025, representing 3,372 fewer reported incidents statewide. The property crime rate also saw a significant decline of 17.3%, with 28,126 fewer reported incidents.

The largest decreases were seen in motor vehicle theft (down 36.8%), robbery (down 23.9%), burglary (down 18.5%), and homicide (down 16.8%). The rates of aggravated assault and sexual assault also decreased by 9.0% and 8.1%, respectively.
Matt Lunn, director of the Colorado Division of Criminal Justice, praised the efforts of law enforcement and community partners for these positive results. He stated, "These numbers represent fewer crimes reported in communities across our state and the dedication of law enforcement and community partners working every day for our neighbors across Colorado, and that is meaningful progress."
The analysis was based on crime data submitted by law enforcement agencies to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and published through Colorado Crime Statistics on June 9th, 2026. It should be noted that these numbers may differ from local reports due to submission timing or different extraction dates.
