City of Colorado Springs earns 2026 Silver Military Friendly® Employer, Military Friendly® Spouse Employer designation
EntSun News/11082220
~ Colorado Springs, CO - The City of Colorado Springs has been recognized as a 2026 Silver Military Friendly® Employer and 2026 Military Friendly® Spouse Employer, solidifying its commitment to supporting veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses in their career paths. This prestigious recognition is given to organizations that demonstrate a strong dedication to creating sustainable and meaningful opportunities for the military community.
With nearly 20% of its employees being veterans, the City of Colorado Springs has proven to be a leader in veteran recruitment, retention, advancement, and culture-building across the workforce. The city is also one of the core employers of the Employer Roundtable, which includes other prominent organizations such as Colorado Springs Utilities, Deloitte, USAA and UCHealth. Together, they work towards developing best practices for supporting the military community in their careers.
The coalition also works closely with local military installations including Peterson and Schriever Space Force Bases, Fort Carson, Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station and the U.S. Air Force Academy. Their partnership has led to shared efforts on legislative initiatives, data collection, job fairs and employment opportunities for military spouses.

Jessie Kimber, Commander in the U.S. Navy (Ret.) and Director of Economic Development and Senior Military Advisor to the Mayor expressed her appreciation for working with an employer that truly understands military service. "The City of Colorado Springs values the skills we bring - leadership, mission focus, and teamwork - and backs it up with real support and opportunity," she said. "It's not just veteran-friendly in name; it's part of the culture here."
In addition to their efforts within their own organization, the City also partners with local organizations such as Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center to support veterans and military spouses as they transition into civilian careers. Through workshops and job fairs specifically tailored for service members, they aim to connect them with employment opportunities and resources.
The City also collaborates with the Military Spouse Community Coalition to advance career opportunities and support services for military spouses in the Pikes Peak Region.
The methodology, criteria, and weightings for the Military Friendly® designation were determined by consultation with the Military Friendly® Advisory Council, a group of independent leaders in the military recruitment community. Final ratings were based on an organization's survey score and their ability to meet and exceed thresholds for recruitment, new hire retention, employee turnover, and promotion & advancement of veterans and military employees.
