The event, starting at 5:30 p.m., will feature Bota Fogo Dance Fitness and Yoga, as well as exciting giveaways.
According to Mayor Michelle Wu, the Summer Fitness Series is a way for residents to come together and take care of themselves and each other during the summer season. She expressed gratitude towards Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, and the Boston Public Health Commission for their partnership in opening up parks for neighbors to stay active and make the most of the season.
The series offers a diverse range of classes including Yoga, Chair Yoga, HIIT, ZUMBA®, Kick It By Eliza®, Walking Group, Strength and Balance, Line Dancing, Barre Fusion, and Latin Fusion Dance. These classes are tailored to cater to the interests of participants of all ages and fitness levels. Families, older adults, and those new to fitness classes can also join age-friendly classes. Cathy Baker-Eclipse, Interim Commissioner of Boston Parks and Recreation highlighted that parks are an incredible resource for residents especially during warmer weather when it becomes more exciting to get outside. Through free programming like the Summer Fitness Series, people of all ages are invited to come out to the parks, connect with their neighbors and stay active. These initiatives not only promote physical activity but also create welcoming spaces where communities can thrive.
Dr. Bisola Ojikutu, Commissioner of Public Health for the City of Boston emphasized that through their Live Long and Well Population Health Equity Agenda they are working towards ensuring that every resident has access to opportunities that support a longer and healthier life. The Summer Fitness Series brings this vision to life by offering free and accessible ways for Bostonians to stay active, connect with their community, and build healthy habits. By expanding access to safe spaces for physical activity, the city is promoting health equity and creating a thriving environment for all.
