Roberts points to five common, fixable mistakes that can prevent resumes from being effectively processed by Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS): using overly designed templates with columns, tables, or graphics that some ATS software may not parse correctly; failing to include relevant keywords and phrases from the job description; using inconsistent job titles, dates, or section headings that can interfere with automated parsing; saving resumes in file formats that may affect readability or text recognition; and submitting the same generic resume for every position instead of tailoring it to the specific role.
