What they're saying: Leaders thankful for continued resources to help Los Angeles fire survivors

What you need to know: State, local, and federal leaders voice their strong support following the approval of a critical FEMA extension that provides continued resources for Los Angeles, Malibu, and Pasadena fire survivors.

SACRAMENTO – Following Governor Gavin Newsom's earlier announcement that FEMA approved California's request to extend critical disaster assistance for Los Angeles fire survivors, numerous state, local and federal leaders echoed the continued support.

The extension follows sustained advocacy from the Governor, California's Congressional delegation, local leaders, community organizations, and recovery partners urging federal action to address ongoing barriers faced by survivors, including prolonged displacement, insurance delays, underinsurance, contractor shortages, and housing constraints.

Ensuring continued federal housing support for homeowners and renters rebuilding after last year's devastating firestorms, FEMA extended Individuals and Households Program (IHP) housing assistance for eligible homeowners through July 9, 2027, and extended assistance for eligible renters through October 9, 2026.

Recovery doesn't end when the headlines fade. Thousands of Los Angeles families are still working to rebuild their homes and their lives, and this extension will help ensure survivors continue receiving the support they need during this critical phase of recovery. We're grateful FEMA listened to the concerns raised by survivors, local communities, and advocates across California and approved this extension.
