Boulder Consultation Publishes New Infidelity Page for Couples Facing Affair Recovery

EntSun News/11104533
BOULDER, Colo. - EntSun -- BOULDER, Colo. — Boulder Consultation has published a new page on infidelity, expanding its relationship issues resources for couples and individuals living through the discovery or disclosure of an affair.

The page doesn't soften what's involved. It names infidelity as one of the most emotionally difficult situations to recover from, loaded with enormous hurt and heartbreak. What breaks isn't only the agreement between two people. It's the reliable security and care they'd both counted on, and the page treats that loss as a death rather than a lapse.

It speaks to both sides. The betrayed partner wondering whether the relationship can survive, and whether they want it to survive after years of investment. The betraying partner recognizing that the affair may have been one way of ending a marriage they'd wanted out of for some time.

A section called What Drives Infidelity lays out the clinical view behind the work. Affairs are rarely about sex. They're driven by underlying patterns, accumulated resentments, and unmet needs, with the primary driver being a lack of Narcissistic Supply, the recognition, attention, and care every person legitimately needs. When childhood caregivers didn't provide enough attuned response, that hunger carries forward into adult relationships. When partners stop providing it for each other, they often start living together like roommates, a dynamic Frost also examines in her work on narcissism.

"In my work, infidelity isn't always about sex. Infidelity is a behavior driven by underlying patterns, accumulated resentments, and unmet needs," said Anna Frost, NCPsyA, a Nationally Certified Psychoanalyst.

The page also sets out what the work actually requires:
  • Uncovering what made for the breach, and what each partner contributed to it
  • Complete cessation of the affair and radical transparency from the betraying partner
  • Understanding what happened thoroughly enough that the same conditions don't resurface
  • Grief for what was lost, supported by skilled analytic work
  • Support for dissolution when a couple decides not to remain together

Sessions run 45 to 60 minutes, most often weekly, and affair recovery typically takes a longer commitment than other work. Sessions are available by phone, Zoom, or in person from anywhere in the US. Everything stays private. No chart notes, no paper trail. A free 15-minute consultation is available at (303) 547-8493.
