Boston Parks and Recreation to Host Second Annual Duck Boat Challenge on Boston Common

This one ~ Boston, MA- The city of Boston is gearing up for a unique and exciting event that will bring the community together in support of its youth. The second annual Duck Boat Challenge, hosted in partnership with Boston Duck Tours, will take place on April 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Boston Common.

Teams of 10 participants ages 16 and up will compete against the clock as they pull a 21,000-pound duck boat across a designated course on the iconic Boston Common. This event not only showcases the grit and teamwork of its participants but also highlights the important role that parks play in providing spaces for recreation, connection, and community pride.

Mayor Michelle Wu expressed her excitement for this one-of-a-kind event, stating, "The Duck Boat Challenge is a unique Boston way to bring our community together in support of young people." She also thanked the Parks and Recreation team and partners for their efforts in creating fun and family-friendly opportunities for residents.

Interim Boston Parks and Recreation Commissioner Cathy Baker-Eclipse shared her enthusiasm for bringing back the Duck Boat Challenge for a second year. "It's an unforgettable experience for participants and spectators," she said. "This event also helps sustain the youth sports and recreation programming that takes place in our parks year-round."

The free youth sports programs offered by Boston Parks and Recreation serve over 20,000 young people annually, promoting healthy lifestyles and creating positive opportunities for the city's youth.

The Challenge will be emceed by award-winning WCVB Channel 5 sports reporter and producer Alexis Beckett, who will bring her energy to the day's festivities. Residents are encouraged to form a team or come out to cheer on competitors on April 11.

To register a team, select a Team Captain and visit boston.gov/duck-boat-challenge before March 26. Teams are encouraged to sign up early to secure their spot.
