Bloomington: Farmers' Market, Griffy Lake Boathouse Open April 4 for the 2026 Season

Bloomington, Ind. ~ Bloomington, Ind. - As the summer season approaches, the Bloomington Community Farmers' Market and Griffy Lake Boathouse are gearing up for their opening weekend. The Parks and Recreation department is excited to welcome visitors back to these popular destinations.

The 52nd season of the Bloomington Community Farmers' Market will kick off on Saturday, April 4 at 8 a.m. at Showers Common, located at 401 N. Morton St. next to Bloomington City Hall. The market will be open every Saturday through October, rain or shine. In April through September, the market will be open from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and in October it will be open from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

For those planning to visit the market, parking regulations will be enforced on Saturdays. Visitors can park for $1 per hour in metered spaces on surrounding streets or for 50 cents per hour in the Trades District Parking Garage or Morton Street Parking Garage. Free parking is also available in the lot north of City Hall, but parallel parking spaces along Morton Street are reserved for vehicles with disabled parking permits.

To celebrate opening day, Parks and Recreation will host Mayor's Team at the Table from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., where Market-goers can ask questions and discuss areas of interest with this week's representative, Parks and Recreation Director Tim Street.

A variety of products are expected to be available at the market this weekend including prepared foods and beverages, eggs, cheeses, meats, honey, produce and cut flowers.

In addition to the farmers' market opening this weekend, Griffy Lake Boathouse will also be opening for the season on Saturday and Sunday, April 4 and 5 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visitors can rent canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards or purchase launch permits for their own watercraft. Reservations for watercraft rentals are also accepted.

The boathouse will have different hours throughout the season, with daily hours from May to August being 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and in September and October, the boathouse will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Watercraft rental prices are $12 per hour or $100 for a 10-hour punch pass. Daily launch permits are available for $10 for all types of watercraft, including motorized ones with electric trolling motors. Annual launch permits are also available for $125 for motorized watercraft and $100 for non-motorized ones. Additional household permits can be purchased for $30 each.

To improve safety and accuracy in rental waivers, renters and launch permit holders will now be required to present a state- or university-issued photo ID. Contact information will also be stored electronically for up to 30 days before being securely deleted.

Fishing enthusiasts can also enjoy Griffy Lake as it is stocked with various fish such as bluegill, redear sunfish, largemouth bass, channel catfish, and crappie. A valid Indiana fishing license is required but can be purchased online or from a fishing supply retailer as the boathouse does not sell them.
