Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities Invites Adults to Become Mentors Through Its Annual Big Recruit

Minneapolis–St. Paul, MN, December 29, 2025
— Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities (BBBSTC) is launching its annual Big Recruit campaign with a clear invitation to the community: make 2026 the year you show up with consistency, care, and connection for a young person by becoming a mentor.

The Big Recruit encourages adults across the Twin Cities to begin the year with purpose by stepping into a one-to-one mentoring relationship. The campaign welcomes caring adults from all backgrounds to help expand access to mentorship and create more pathways for young people to thrive.

"We believe in starting the year with intention," said Pat Sukhum, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities. "The Big Recruit is an opportunity for adults across the Twin Cities to step into mentorship and create moments of joy, belonging, and possibility for our young people. When our community shows up together, powerful things happen."

A Collective Community Effort

The Big Recruit is powered by the broader BBBSTC community, including current and former mentors, families, corporate partners, and community supporters. Local partners and ambassadors, including organizations such as 100 Black Men Twin Cities, help amplify mentoring stories and encourage more adults to consider becoming a Big.

Throughout January, National Mentoring Month, the campaign will feature:
  • A "New Year, New YOUth Mentor" storytelling series
  • Social media and partner amplification
  • Community events and activations across the Twin Cities
  • Weekly spotlights highlighting mentors in Minneapolis and St. Paul
The Power of Mentorship

More on EntSun News
Mentorship is one of the most effective relationship-based supports for young people. Research shows that youth with mentors are more likely to attend college, earn higher lifetime income, and experience greater economic mobility. Mentoring programs like Big Brothers Big Sisters also deliver strong returns on investment through long-term community benefits.

Drawing from personal experience, Sukhum shared:
"I've experienced the power of mentoring from every angle—personally, professionally, and in the communities we serve. More than 25 years ago, I was matched with a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters, and that relationship helped shape who I am today. Every new mentor creates a ripple of hope and possibility."
