Palms to the Pines Run is a 400-mile per day, four-day motorcycle ride from the The Legendary Boot Hill Saloon at 310 East Main St. in Daytona Beach to the Boot Hill Saloon located at 1065 Watson Rd., Laconia, New Hampshire. Laconia is home to the oldest bike rally in the world, which will be held June 8 – 16 this year.
"There are about nine riders from Daytona Beach, but we are adding riders along the way," said Robin Hanger, owner of Best Price Trailers. "As soon as Robin heard about the run, he volunteered to accompany the riders to ensure their safety during the run," said Rhonda Harrison, manager at Boot Hill. There will be a mechanic accompanying the riders in case they are needed as well. There is no cost to join the ride, and riders receive a commemorative t-shirt for participating.
Raffle tickets and sponsorships are being sold by Boot Hill to help cover costs of gas and rooms for the riders. Bruce Rossmeyer's Harley-Davidson® has donated a travel bag and rain suit for the raffle. S.R. Perrott has donated Yungling Corn Hole board. Tickets are available at Boot Hill and winners do not need to be present to win. About The Legendary of Boot Hill Saloon
The legend of the Boot Hill Saloon reaches around the world. The Boot Hill Saloon is the traditional "first stop" and "meeting place" in Daytona Beach. The official deeds and abstracts from Boot Hill go back to the late 18oo's. When the property was owned by a church...there is not much written documentation about what the church did with the property while they owned it, however there were some old-timers in the 1970's, who seemed to remember that there used to be a small church and funeral parlor at the location the Boot Hill now occupies, and it was not unusual to have a service and viewing prior to being laid to rest in the cemetery across the street.
The building, as it stands today, was built sometime in the 1920'. Dennis MaGuire purchased the property in 1973 and changed the name to Boot Hill and it turned into a place for bikers during Bike Week.
The inside of the bar is a time capsule of memorabilia left behind by bikers from all over the world over. The Legend of the "Boot Hill Saloon" really started to emerge in the late 1970's/early 1980's. At that time, as far as the bikers went, the "Boot " was the really only true example in town. During that time the media did a series of stories about Bike Week and bikers. They were looking for a tie-in with the Hollywood version of the biker and so the Boot Hill was featured in many articles in EasyRider Magazine, even in the Smithsonian Magazine. Harley Davidson used the front of the Boot in some of their print advertising, especially when they introduced new models. The "Boot" soon became the place for celebrities to mingle and be seen during Bike Week. To this day the "Boot Hill Saloon" remains the cornerstone of Bike Week events on Main Street.
