Artspace Warehouse is pleased to announce upcoming exhibition, "Mood Shifts"
EntSun News/10768722
LOS ANGELES - March 13, 2019 - EntSun -- Artspace Warehouse is pleased to announce upcoming exhibition Mood Shifts, featuring artists Mike Gough, Andrew Lyko, Ash Almonte, Ilan Leas, Michael Giliberti. All artists featured in this exhibition utilize expressionist methods and their work is emotional, gestural, and created from various states of subconscious and the constant flux of memory.
Artist Ilan Leas was first inspired to create his unique style when he watched a television special about crop circles. He used these other-worldly and mysterious intricate designs to then express events from his daily life. Mick Gough also paints autobiographically exploring his personal memories, but explores universal feelings of isolation and loneliness. California native, Andrew Lyko, is directly influenced by expressionist paintings and tackles themes of duality and pop culture. Ash Almonte uses a gestural style and an interest in haute couture to explore movement that has no apparent beginning or end. Michael Giliberti, a graduate of Parsons School of Design in New York, paintings places that have a feeling of universal familiarity.

Mike Gough was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, in 1985. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Sir Wilfred Grenfell College in 2007 and in 2010 graduated from Centrail Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London with a Masters of Fine Arts. Gough's interest in the elusive quality of memory has always been an invariable interest in his art practice. Rooted in memories of his upbringing in Newfoundland, Gough's paintings are autobiographical but carry universal narratives
Andrew Lyko is a young emerging artist from Rialto, California. His colorful style denies the rigid structures of rules and defies traditional boundaries through layers of bold, expressionistic strokes and references to pop culture as it relates to modern art, collective youth culture, and memory. Lyko's artworks incorporate representations of his personal experiences and interactions with various objects and locations that have left strong impressions on his life. These narrative memories find visual form through acrylic, oil bars and spray paint.

Ash Almonte is a contemporary abstract painter born in Abilene, Texas in 1983. Quickly gaining nationwide attention for her unique and fresh style, Almonte uses references to abstract expressionism and combines it with a layered figurative aesthetic. After high school, the artist went on to obtain a Bachelor of Fine Arts from McMurry University in Abilene, where she began to perfect her unique style, working mainly with mixed media, including enamel, oil, acrylic and graphite. Ash Almonte is also the executive director of an organization providing creative opportunities and necessary resources to kids in foster care.
Ilan Leas was born and raised in New York and received a BS from Wake Forest University in North Carolina. His mother was an art teacher and Leas exhibited creativity from an early age. His style, which has been described as "complex," emerged in middle school after watching a TV special about crop circles. After that, Leas began drawing intricate designs that incorporated events from his daily life.
Michael Giliberti studied graphic design at Parsons School of Design in New York and UCLA, and printmaking at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. Prior to committing full time to his painting and printmaking, Giliberti enjoyed a successful career as a creative director in corporate advertising. It was his interest and exposure to photography, combined with his training as an illustrator, that formed the basis of his creative process.
