Acclaimed Actress, Brely Evans, Joins Forces With The Providence Foundation To Shine A Light On The Issue Of Homelessness In San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO - EntSun -- Today, The Providence Foundation announces the launch of its "Show Up For Someone" campaign. Featuring the acclaimed actress, Brely Evans, this new giving campaign aims to empower her social media followers, and beyond, to help Providence show up for those who need it most by giving at least $25.00. Through this partnership, Providence and Ms. Evans seek to mobilize greater awareness and compassion, as well as galvanize support for the issue of housing stability in San Francisco and communities across the nation.

"Homelessness is not a failure; it is a fall. Also, homelessness does not begin on the street. It begins long before the fall. A missed paycheck. A medical bill. A landlord who would not wait. And in those moments, everyone has needed someone to show up for them," states Dexter R. Hall, Executive Director of The Providence Foundation. "When people fall, they need someone to help them regain footing. That is what Providence does. We show up before and after the crisis, helping families, seniors, and youth regain footing before instability becomes homelessness. Prevention isn't charity, it's justice. With our 'Show Up For Someone' campaign, we are asking for everyone to show up too."

In the United States, homelessness continues to be an issue that American cities struggle to solve and cannot keep up with demand. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, it is estimated that 653,104 people experienced homelessness across the United States in 2023, with people of color being disproportionately impacted. Of this total number, 23.3% experienced being homeless for the first time, a trend that continues to rise due to such factors as rising rent prices, low incomes, and a shortage of affordable housing. In San Francisco, the 2024 Point in Time Count identified 8,035 individuals experiencing homelessness on a single night, according to the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing. Of those, 1,980 were African American, despite Black residents making up only 5–6% of the city's population. This means African Americans represent 37% of San Francisco's homeless population, underscoring one of the starkest racial disproportionalities in the country.

Originally from Oakland, California, Brely Evans is an acclaimed actress, singer, songwriter, producer, author and comedian. She has appeared in films such as Just Wright (2010), Sparkle (2012) and The Man in 3B (2015) and the 2019 Oprah Winfrey Network primetime soap opera, Ambitions. Ms. Evans has also appeared in numerous TV programs and starred in such BET drama series as Being Mary Jane (2014-2015), The Family Business (2020–present), and Haus of Vicious (2022–present). For the "Show Up For Someone" campaign, Ms. Evans will leverage all of her social media platforms by posting empowering and educational content to raise awareness surrounding the issues of homelessness and the wrap-around services and resources in San Francisco and communities across the nation.
