A 13-Year-Old's Wish That Continues Saving Lives

The Icla da Silva Foundation invites the public to a free virtual celebration on July 9, honoring a legacy that continues to help patients overcome barriers to bone marrow transplantation.
NEW YORK - EntSun -- The Icla da Silva Foundation will host Icla's Wish Lives On, a free virtual celebration on July 9, 2026, honoring the legacy of Icla da Silva and the thousands of patients whose lives have been impacted by her wish.
Icla was just 13 years old when she lost her battle with leukemia in 1992. Before her passing, she expressed a wish to help other children facing the same disease. That wish became the mission for an organization that has spent more than three decades helping patients overcome the financial, emotional, and logistical barriers that often stand between them and a lifesaving bone marrow transplant.
The virtual event will bring together patients, families, supporters, and community members to celebrate the impact of Icla's legacy and learn how that mission continues today. Guests will hear patient stories, reflect on lives changed, and discover how they can help more families facing blood cancer and other serious blood disorders.

"My sister wanted to help other children facing leukemia. More than three decades later, her wish is still changing lives," said Airam da Silva, President of the Icla da Silva Foundation and Icla's brother. "Every patient we help, every family we support, is a reminder that her wish lives on. This event is an opportunity to celebrate what has been accomplished and ensure that we can continue helping patients who need us today."

Participation is free and open to the public. Donations are encouraged to help the Foundation continue removing barriers to treatment and provide critical support to patients in need of a bone marrow transplant.
To register for the event or make a donation, visit www.icla.org/wish.
Since 2022, the Foundation has provided more than $1.37 million in direct assistance to 2,313 patients and families, helping cover essential non-medical expenses such as meals, transportation, lodging, and caregiver support during treatment.
