MWA Prince George's County hosts acclaimed author Austin S. Camacho for a session on writing culturally diverse characters with accuracy, depth, and authenticity, giving writers tools to avoid stereotypes and create meaningful representation.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. - EntSun -- The Prince George's County Chapter of the Maryland Writers' Association (MWA‑PGC) is proud to announce its upcoming April program, "Cultural Sensitivity in Fiction: Writing Diverse Characters with Respect and Authenticity," led by acclaimed novelist Austin S. Camacho.
In today's literary landscape, readers expect characters who reflect the richness and complexity of the real world. This workshop equips writers with the tools to portray culturally diverse characters with accuracy, depth, and respect. Participants will learn how to move beyond surface traits, avoid stereotypes, research unfamiliar cultures responsibly, and recognize unconscious bias. Camacho will also share practical strategies for introducing diverse characters without tokenism, crafting authentic dialogue and motivations, and building inclusive casts that strengthen story impact.
