Free performance supporting the arts, justice, and community.
YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio - EntSun -- The World House Choir presents the regional premiere of Weather: Stand the Storm in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
Weather: Stand the Storm is a powerful twenty-minute choral work, a call to action, written by internationally renowned music educator, conductor and composer Rollo Dilworth. Dilworth set the poem, "Weather," by Yale poet and MacArthur Grant recipient Claudia Rankine. Rankine was tasked by the New York Times to grapple with the global landscape of June 2020 reflecting on the two traumatic events that weighed on our collective hearts and minds: [1] a worldwide pandemic and [2] the filmed murder of George Floyd.
The program will also include choral works featuring dynamic vocal soloists and special commentaries by Miami University musicologist, Dr. Tammy Kernodle, for Friday's concert [4/26] and Dr. Dilworth, the composer, for Saturday's concert [4/27]. These commentaries will provide the audience an entryway into the composer's compositional style using diverse genres drawn from the African American tradition including call-response, spirituals, blues, jazz, along with elements from musical theatre and classical music.

Can a musical work be a call to action? We believe it can and so does composer Rollo Dilworth who writes,
May Weather: Stand the Storm inspire us all to "disorder the disorder," and to do our part in shaping a society that is fair and just not just for a few, but for everybody.
This piece challenges us to become agents of social justice and action. Join us for the performance of this remarkable work. Admission is free. Donations are welcome.
