Wonder Gardens CEO and president Neil Anderson announces retirement

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. - EntSun -- Wonder Gardens CEO and president Neil Anderson has announced his retirement from the nonprofit effective April 15. After serving as the organization's leader for four years, Anderson plans to return to Wisconsin to retire near family.

Since joining the organization in 2022, Anderson has led with integrity and unwavering commitment to the Wonder Gardens mission. Under his leadership, the nonprofit has experienced immense growth and revitalization, most recently with the opening of the new Otter Grotto and baby gator Vivarium.

During his time with Wonder Gardens, Anderson developed and launched its master plan and capital campaign, honoring the organization's rich history while embracing modernization. By investing in infrastructure upgrades and expanding educational initiatives, he has helped create a more engaging and accessible environment for visitors of all ages. He also enhanced relationships with local partners including the City of Bonita Springs as well as strengthened the nonprofit's financial foundation while preserving its mission of conservation, education and community engagement.

"It has been an incredible honor to serve as CEO and president for the last four years, and I am deeply grateful for the community's trust and partnership," said Neil Anderson, outgoing CEO and president of the Wonder Gardens. "Together, we've faced many challenges, celebrated our 90th anniversary and made meaningful strides toward our master plan. None of this would have been possible without the dedication of the staff, volunteers and board of directors who support this mission every day. As I step into this new chapter of my life, I reflect fondly on what we've built and look forward to seeing what the future has in store for the Wonder Gardens."

The search is now underway for a new executive director who will lead the organization in this next chapter. The Wonder Gardens Board of Directors has established a search committee and is committed to ensuring strong leadership for the future.

"Neil led us through adversity in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, fostered partnerships with several community organizations, donors and volunteers, strengthened our public support and expanded our reach. He has truly helped us 'Renew the Wonder' and we wish him only the best as he enters retirement!"

Wonder Gardens is currently accepting applications for an executive director to oversee the organization including zoological operations, animal care, education, guest services, retail, fundraising and special events.
