What Australian Drivers Should Do in the First 30 Minutes After a Car Accident
EntSun News/11101229
NORTH SYDNEY, Australia - EntSun -- The moments following a motor vehicle accident can be stressful and confusing. Australian accident management provider I'm In The Right is encouraging drivers to understand the essential steps to take during the first 30 minutes after a collision.
The first 30 minutes after an accident
1. Stop and check for injuries
Drivers involved in an accident must stop. Check yourself, your passengers and others for injuries. Call Triple Zero (000) if anyone requires urgent medical assistance or the incident presents a serious danger.
2. Make the scene safe
Turn on your hazard lights and, if it is safe and permitted, move vehicles away from active traffic. Do not put yourself at risk by standing on a busy road or attempting to direct traffic. If a vehicle cannot be moved, relocate to a safe position and contact emergency or roadside assistance services.
3. Exchange essential information
Collect the other driver's:
Record the contact details of any witnesses. Exchange information calmly without admitting responsibility or arguing about who caused the accident.

4. Photograph and document the incident
If it is safe, photograph or record:
Write down the time, date, location, weather conditions and a brief description of what happened. Save any dashcam footage before it is automatically overwritten.
5. Report the accident and seek support
Reporting requirements vary by state or territory and the circumstances of the accident. Contact police when required, particularly if someone is injured, another party refuses to provide details, a driver appears affected by drugs or alcohol, or the scene remains dangerous.
Notify your insurer where applicable and seek accident-management assistance if you need help with towing, repairs, insurer communication or replacement transport.
Replacement vehicles for eligible not-at-fault drivers
Eligible drivers may be able to obtain a comparable replacement vehicle if another party caused the accident and their vehicle is being assessed or repaired.
More on EntSun News
Eligibility depends on the accident circumstances and available evidence. Comprehensive insurance may not be required when the at-fault driver is insured and an appropriate cost-recovery pathway is available.
I'm In The Right assesses each application individually. Where eligibility is confirmed, it can arrange a replacement vehicle and assist with insurer communication, repairs, documentation and recovery of reasonable hire costs from the at-fault party or their insurer.
The company has supported more than 50,000 not-at-fault drivers across Australia and operates a nationwide fleet of more than 1,200 vehicles.
