VENTURA, Calif. - EntSun -- Two board members have joined the Ventura College Foundation board of directors.
New board member Denise Sindelar is the founder and principal project manager of Sindelar Art Consulting in Ventura. She works with municipalities, foundations, non-profit organizations, and individual artists in public art, strategic planning, and community engagement. Before starting her business, Sindelar served as the programs director and as deputy director for the Museum of Ventura County. Prior to that, she was the community partnerships manager for the City of Ventura.
"I attended Ventura College in 1987 as a re-entry student after four years with the Postal Service. The encouragement from staff and professors, along with the scholarships I received when transferring to UCSB, were incredibly helpful to my journey," says Sindelar. "I hope to encourage more alumni to support the Ventura College Foundation, as it provides the comprehensive support students need to complete their studies during challenging times. Our community benefits deeply from graduates who enter the workforce with the skills necessary to succeed."

As the new Associated Students of Ventura College (ASVC) President, Briana Becerra serves on the foundation board, acting as the primary liaison between students and the college and district administration. Becerra, a communication major, also serves as the official spokesperson for ASVC and the broader Ventura College student body.
"The VC Foundation believes in my goals as a first-generation Latina student, and that belief has made my dream of becoming a lawyer feel real for the first time," says Becerra. "I'm not just working toward a degree-- I'm working toward becoming someone who can open doors for others the way others have opened them for me."
"Our board members play an important role in not only supporting the foundation's work, but spreading the word about how Ventura College, its students and alumni are impacting our community," says Anne Paul King, the foundation's executive director. "We look forward to the insight and contributions Denise and Briana will bring to the board."
