The Village at Augsburg Opens New Memory Care Neighborhood

Opening fulfills long-envisioned dream and puts Augsburg
at the forefront of holistic dementia support
at the forefront of holistic dementia support
BALTIMORE - EntSun -- The Village at Augsburg–A National Lutheran Community is expanding its continuum of care with the opening of a new Memory Care Neighborhood in August 2022. Augsburg's new Memory Care Neighborhood brings an integrated, holistic approach and person-centered support for older adults diagnosed with moderate to advanced dementia.
The opening marks the latest milestone in a string of significant renovations and community enhancements over the past year. The new Assisted Living Memory Care Neighborhood repositions former semi-private skilled nursing spaces in the community's health center. The neighborhood's design incorporates Baltimore-themed décor, abundant light and spaces designed to optimize both one-to-one interaction and social engagement through person-centered programming that stimulates cognition, enhances functioning and improves quality of life.
To celebrate the opening of its new Assisted Living Memory Care Neighborhood, The Village at Augsburg is hosting a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, July 27 from 4-6 p.m. The event will be attended by National Lutheran Communities & Services (NLCS) President and Chief Executive Officer Cyndi Walters; Health Facilities Association of Maryland (HFAM) Manager for Outreach and Government Relations Hope Morris; LeadingAge Maryland President and Chief Executive Officer Allison Ciborowski; Maryland State Senator Charles E. Sydnor III; representatives from The Village at Augsburg's Board of Trustees, Augsburg residents and other distinguished guests.
NLCS' ConnectedLiving approach provides the philosophical foundation for Augsburg's assisted living memory care support. "All aspects of our programming and services across the entire NLCS family are grounded in the belief that each individual is unique and that every person walks a different journey," Walters says. "We recognize that memory loss due to dementia does not change who each individual was, nor can it erase who they have the potential to become if they have access to the right support. This insight inspires NLCS' vision for memory care that brightens the path of each person's journey through individualized programming and holistic support that adapts to each person's aspirations and capabilities."

Executive Director Rusty Mitchell says Augsburg's ConnectedLiving philosophy, small neighborhood size, innovative team model and grounding in enhanced education are all key attributes that promote greater wellness and one-to-one interaction between team members and residents. "Each team member, regardless of title or role, completes 12 hours of dementia care education by certified trainers on how Alzheimer's and other dementias progressively impact cognition and whole-person functioning. All team members must renew that training annually to stay equipped with the latest dementia care advancements and approaches."
