Texas: Governor Abbott Requests Federal Disaster Assistance For Three Additional Counties Following Summer Severe Storms And Flooding
EntSun News/11101645
~ In the aftermath of severe storms and flooding that hit Texas in July, Governor Greg Abbott has taken action to provide aid and resources to affected communities. Today, he directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to request that Grimes, Live Oak, and McMullen counties be added to President Donald J. Trump's Major Disaster Declaration.
Governor Abbott stated, "As communities across Texas navigate the aftermath of severe weather and flooding, we must ensure Texans have the resources they need to recover." He emphasized the importance of delivering aid to affected areas and requested that additional counties be added to the Major Disaster Declaration.
A review of damage assessments in Grimes, Live Oak, and McMullen counties showed that they exceeded federal criteria for the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Public Assistance program. This program provides assistance for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities. As more information becomes available, additional counties may be requested for FEMA Public Assistance. Currently, Atascosa, Bexar, Blanco, Brewster, Comal, Grimes, Live Oak, McMullen, Medina, Schleicher Terrell, and Wilson are pending approval.

The Governor's request for FEMA's Individual Assistance program for 30 affected counties is still pending. Additionally, a request from Texas to authorize additional FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program resources statewide is also pending.
Governor Abbott has been actively working to provide all available resources to support communities impacted by the July severe storms and flooding. This includes securing approval of a Major Disaster Declaration following storm impacts and announcing an extension of SNAP replacement benefits for Texans affected by flooding.
He also amended the state's disaster declaration to include additional impacted counties and provided an update on the state's emergency response in Cotulla. In Uvalde, he gave another update on the state's flood response. The Governor has issued a state disaster declaration and increased the readiness level of the Texas State Emergency Operations Center (SOC) to 24-hour operations at Level II (Escalated Response). He has also activated additional state emergency response resources as heavy rainfall and flash flooding threats continued.
In preparation for the severe weather and flash flooding threat, state emergency response resources were deployed ahead of time. Governor Abbott remains committed to providing aid and support to all affected communities in Texas.
