Texas: Governor Abbott Renews Border Security Disaster Proclamation In May 2026
EntSun News/11092476
~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has renewed his disaster proclamation for a number of counties and state agencies affected by the ongoing surge of individuals unlawfully crossing the Texas-Mexico border. The proclamation, originally issued on May 31, 2021, was amended in subsequent proclamations to include additional affected counties.
Under Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott certified that the surge of individuals crossing the border posed an imminent threat of disaster for a number of Texas counties and state agencies. This declaration was further modified to include more counties as the situation continued.
Despite efforts to address the issue, Governor Abbott has determined that the conditions still exist and pose an ongoing threat of disaster. This is evidenced by a local disaster declaration made by Willacy County.
