Texas: Governor Abbott Reappoints Three To Jefferson And Orange Counties Board Of Pilot Commissioners

~ Governor Greg Abbott has recently announced the reappointment of three individuals to the Jefferson and Orange Counties Board of Pilot Commissioners. Brandy Bergeron, M.D., Shawn M. Sparrow, and Amy Townsend, M.D. have all been selected to serve on the board for terms set to expire on August 22, 2027.

The Board of Pilot Commissioners holds exclusive jurisdiction over pilot services in Jefferson and Orange Counties, including intermediate stops and landing places for vessels on navigable streams within their jurisdiction. This important role ensures the safety and efficiency of waterway transportation in the area.

Brandy Bergeron, M.D., a resident of Beaumont, brings a wealth of medical expertise to the board. She is an anesthesiologist and physician partner at Anesthesia Associates, as well as a board member at Christus Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth where she also serves as medical director. In addition to her professional roles, Bergeron is a delegate for the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists and an alternate delegate for the American Society of Anesthesiologists. She is also a member of both the Texas Medical Association (TMA) and the Symphony League of Beaumont. Bergeron holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University (TAMU) and a Doctor of Medicine from The University of Texas (UT) Medical School at Houston. She completed her anesthesiology residency at UT Medical Branch at Galveston, where she also served as chief resident.

Shawn M. Sparrow, another Beaumont resident, has been reappointed as chairman of the board for the Jefferson and Orange Counties Board of Pilot Commissioners. Sparrow brings extensive business experience to his role as vice president of The Houseman Companies and executive director for First State Bank of Texas and County Bancshares, Inc. He has previously served as chairman for various organizations including the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club of Orange. Sparrow holds an undergraduate degree in Business from Lamar University.

Amy Townsend, M.D., a resident of Orange, is a physician and owner of Magnolia Direct Primary Care. She is also a member and past president of the Jefferson County Medical Society and chair of the TMA's Committee on Independent Physician Practice. Townsend is also involved in her community as a member of the Rotary Club of Bridge City-Orangefield. She received her Biomedical Science degree from TAMU and her Doctor of Medicine from UT Medical Branch at Galveston. Townsend completed her Family Medicine residency at Louisiana State University - Lake Charles, where she also served as chief resident.
