Texas: Governor Abbott Further Amends, Renews Severe Storm Disaster Proclamation In May 2026

~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has declared a state of disaster in six counties due to severe storms that have caused widespread damage and posed a threat to the safety of residents. The proclamation, issued on April 27, 2026 and amended and renewed in subsequent proclamations, cites heavy rainfall, flash flooding, hazardous wind gusts, large hail, and tornadoes as the main causes of the disaster.

The affected counties include Calhoun, Lamar, Palo Pinto, Parker, Victoria, and Wise. In accordance with Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott has declared a disaster in these areas and authorized the use of all available resources from state government and political subdivisions to cope with the situation.

Under Section 418.017 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott has also suspended any regulatory statutes or orders that may hinder necessary actions in response to this disaster. This includes any state statutes or administrative rules regarding contracting or procurement that may impede emergency response efforts by state agencies.

The proclamation also states that copies will be filed with applicable authorities as required by law. It is signed by Governor Abbott and attested by Secretary of State Jane Nelson.
