Texas: Governor Abbott Encourages Water Development Grant Applications
EntSun News/11089453
~ In a recent press release, Governor Greg Abbott urged water entities in Texas to take advantage of the Texas Water Development Board's (TWDB) Water Supply and Infrastructure Grant opportunity (WSIG). The grant, which totals over $1 billion, aims to enhance the state's water supply and update its water infrastructure.
Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of safeguarding water as a precious resource. He also highlighted the significant investments made by Texas this year to ensure reliable water sources for its residents. The governor encouraged eligible political subdivisions and water entities across the state to apply for funding through the TWDB to secure Texas' water future for generations to come.
Last year, Governor Abbott declared a water infrastructure investment an emergency item, recognizing the urgent need to address the needs of Texans and communities throughout the state. This led to the passing of Senate Bill 7 and House Joint Resolution 7, which allocated $20 billion for new water supply projects and repairs of existing infrastructure - the largest generational investment in Texas' history.

Furthermore, Governor Abbott signed House Bill 500 into law, allowing TWDB to provide 100% grant funding for eligible water supply and infrastructure projects. These include improvements or replacements of existing systems, as well as efforts towards reusing water resources and addressing issues such as water loss or environmental violations.
Interested parties have until July 30th, 2026 to submit their full applications. Detailed instructions can be found on the WSIG webpage to ensure all necessary materials are included. Additionally, TWDB will be hosting webinars on April 23rd and May 13th for those who wish to learn more about WSIG implementation. Registration is now open for both sessions.
Governor Abbott's call for applications through TWDB's Water Supply and Infrastructure Grant opportunity highlights his commitment towards securing Texas' future by investing in its vital resources. With these grants, it is hoped that Texas will continue to make strides in improving its water supply and infrastructure for the benefit of its residents.
