Texas: Governor Abbott Announces $750 Million In Teacher Incentive Allotment Awards
EntSun News/11094535
~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that over $750 million in Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) funds have been distributed to more than 65,000 teachers in Texas. These funds, which are administered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), bring the total amount of TIA awards to over $1.8 billion since its inception.
According to Governor Abbott, Texas is fortunate to have dedicated and inspiring teachers who have been shaping the minds of students for generations. He believes that these incentive funds are crucial in recognizing and rewarding the efforts of the best teachers who are working towards improving the lives of their students. By empowering teachers to succeed, Governor Abbott believes that Texas will continue on its path to becoming the top state for education in the country.
The TIA program was designed with the goal of retaining Texas' most effective educators in the classroom and expanding access to high-quality instruction. It also aims to provide a clear pathway for teachers to earn significantly higher salaries, including six-figure incomes. Recent research from Texas Tech University has shown that TIA is indeed delivering on its promises.

The study found that teacher retention rates increase after TIA implementation, with school systems retaining their top-performing teachers at significantly higher rates by years three and four. This has resulted in an overall 20% increase in teacher retention for districts' most effective educators and stronger retention rates across-the-board. The research also indicates that these systems are accurately identifying strong teaching practices, as reflected in improved student outcomes. In fact, school systems have seen about one-third of a year's worth of growth in math and reading, demonstrating that TIA's impact grows over time as local designation systems mature.
Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath emphasized the importance of recognizing and rewarding effective teachers through programs like TIA. He stated that teachers are the single most important factor within schools that can affect student outcomes. By providing pathways for these teachers to stay in the classrooms where they are most needed, students ultimately reap the benefits. Commissioner Morath expressed his gratitude for the strategic investments made by the legislature to support TIA and commended districts for their commitment to supporting their staff.

Dr. Wendy Eldredge, Superintendent of Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, shared her district's success story with TIA. She stated that in the 2024-25 school year, TIA helped retain 91% of their top teachers, resulting in a significant improvement in their 2025 Accountability Rating from a C to a B. While Dr. Eldredge acknowledged that the district worked hard to earn this rating, she also recognized that maintaining their best teachers played a crucial role in securing this achievement.
Allison Martin, a TIA Master designated teacher with Aspermont ISD, shared her experience with the program. She stated that TIA has allowed her to track her students' growth and evaluate her own teaching practices in the classroom. Aspermont ISD has also created a video showcasing how they have implemented TIA in their district.
A total of 809 school systems participated in TIA during the 2025-26 school year, and this number is expected to grow to over 1,000 systems by Fall 2026. For more information on participating districts and the TIA program, visit Participating and Aspiring Districts - Teacher Incentive Allotment.
