Texas: Governor Abbott Activates State Emergency Response Resources Ahead of Severe Storm Risk
EntSun News/11084500
~ As severe storms are expected to hit Texas tonight, Governor Greg Abbott has taken action to ensure the safety of the state's residents. In a press release, the governor announced that he has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to activate state emergency response resources.
"The State of Texas is prepared to respond to severe storms anticipated this weekend," said Governor Abbott. He emphasized the importance of being prepared and urged Texans to stay informed and have a plan in place in case of emergency.
According to the National Weather Service, a storm system is moving through the state and will bring potential severe weather impacts starting later today. The threat will begin in the Big Bend region and extend eastward as the weekend progresses, covering most of the eastern two-thirds of Texas. The hazards include strong thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, flash flooding, large hail, damaging winds, and possible tornadoes. Texans are advised to stay updated on forecast information and follow guidance from local officials.
In response to Governor Abbott's directive, several state emergency response resources have been made available to support local storm response operations. These include Swiftwater Rescue Boat Squads from Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (Texas A&M Task Force 1), Severe Weather Support Packages from Texas Department of State Health Services (Texas Emergency Medical Task Force), Game Wardens and rescue boat teams from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, helicopters with hoist capability from Texas Department of Public Safety, personnel monitoring road conditions from Texas Department of Transportation, Disaster Assessment and Recovery Agents from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, power outage monitoring from Public Utility Commission of Texas, monitoring of natural gas supply from Railroad Commission of Texas, and air/water/wastewater monitoring from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

As the threat of severe weather looms over Texas, Governor Abbott and state emergency management officials are taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of all Texans. It is important for residents to stay informed and prepared in case of any emergency situations.
